Children's Mental Health Week: Supporting Young Minds at Three Circles Fostering

At Three Circles Fostering, we believe that mental health and well-being is just as important as physical health, especially for the children and young people in our care. That’s why we are proud to support Children’s Mental Health Week 2025, which runs from 3rd to 9th February. This annual event, launched a decade ago by the charity Place2Be, exists to empower, equip, and give a voice to all children and young people in the UK.

Know Yourself, Grow Yourself

The theme this year is “Know Yourself, Grow Yourself”, an important reminder of the importance of self-awareness and personal growth. By understanding their emotions, strengths, and challenges, young people can develop the resilience they need to navigate life’s ups and downs.

At Three Circles, we are dedicated to helping children and young people develop self-awareness and confidence. Whether through support work, activities, online events, or fostering environments that encourage open discussions, we ensure that every young person feels heard, valued, and empowered to grow.

How We Support Young People’s Mental Health

Fostering comes with its own unique challenges, and we recognise that children in care may have experienced trauma, instability, or difficulties that affect their mental health. That’s why we incorporate mental well-being into everything we do. Here are some of the ways we support children’s mental health at Three Circles:

1. Providing Safe and Nurturing Homes

A stable and loving home is the foundation of good mental health. We work closely with our foster carers to ensure they create a safe, supportive environment where children feel comfortable expressing themselves.

2. Encouraging Open Conversations About Feelings

We help foster carers develop tools to support children in exploring and naming their emotions. Using age-appropriate techniques, we encourage young people to talk about their feelings and understand that all emotions are valid.

3. Offering Regular Wishes & Feelings Consultations

Through our engagement team, we offer regular Wishes & Feelings consultations which allow young people to voice their opinions and be heard.

Children’s Mental Health Week Partnerships

This year, Place2Be has partnered with Here4You, supported by The Walt Disney Company and the Inside Out 2characters, to bring the theme “Know Yourself, Grow Yourself” to life. These collaborations will help children and young people understand and explore their emotions in engaging and creative ways.

How You Can Get Involved

Foster carers, social workers, and families can all play a role in supporting Children’s Mental Health Week. Here are a few ways to get involved:

  • Encourage conversations about emotions with children and young people.

  • Use creative activities (drawing, journalling, storytelling) to help them express their feelings.

  • Take part in Place2Be’s activities and resources throughout the week.

  • Promote self-care by introducing mindfulness, relaxation techniques, or hobbies that support mental well-being.

Three Circles: Always Here to Support You

Children’s Mental Health Week is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of mental well-being, but at Three Circles, we focus on supporting young minds every single day. If you are a foster carer or young person in our network and need advice or support, our team is always here to help.

Let’s work together to ensure that every young person in our care knows themselves, grows themselves, and thrives.
