Disability Pride Month 2024
July is Disability Pride Month, a special time to celebrate and support the disabled community. Since 2015, this month has been about raising awareness, starting positive conversations, and celebrating the diversity and achievements of people with disabilities.
What is Disability Pride Month?
Disability Pride Month began in the US after the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed in 1990 to prevent discrimination against people with disabilities. In the UK, similar protections are in place under the Equality Act 2010.
The Disability Pride Flag, designed by Ann Magill in 2019, features colourful stripes representing different types of disabilities:
Red: Physical disabilities
Gold: Neurodivergence (e.g., autism, ADHD)
White: Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
Blue: Mental illnesses
Green: Sensory disabilities
The diagonal stripes symbolize cutting through barriers in society.
Celebrating and Raising Awareness
Disability Pride Month includes parades, festivals, and events where people come together to celebrate and raise awareness. It’s a time to highlight the challenges still faced by the disabled community and promote equality and inclusivity.
At Three Circles, we are proud to support Disability Pride Month. We pledge to promote awareness, advocate for inclusivity, and celebrate the diversity and contributions of people with disabilities.
Let’s work together to create a more inclusive and supportive society for everyone.
